Happy Thanksgiving!!
What a great day!! I love Thanksgiving because it's such a great family day. We had a great meal and a great time at Mark's parent's home. I forgot my card in my camera so I didn't take any pictures, but believe me, it looked beautiful, the food was delicious and it was just a good time!
Here is our Thankful Tree this year and some of the things we have been grateful for...
dates with Dad, dad's job, my family, bedtime stories with Megan, Family Fun Run, our new park, friends, chocolate milk, our home teacher, cameras, laughter, the church and prophet, Mia, technology, umbrellas and jackets, chocolate chip cookies, water, good music, education, Megan's kisses, fresh flowers, entertainment, electricity , rain, Thanksgiving, scriptures, cousins, the BEST kids, Momma Maria, a backpack, cameras, good weather, the best weather, bed, our school, books, trees, good health, my dad, Christmas, my house, The Fife family, Mom and Dad, obedient kids, family time, Jesus, treats, sports, bedtime stories, T.V., my calling , hats.

Relapse!!!
After two weeks of no blankie, Megan's Aunt Suzy came over today with her baby boy. They left baby Grey's blanket (which feels just like Megan's old blanket). Megan found it right before bed and had a relapse!

Bye-Bye Blankie!
I can't stand that my kids have to grow up but man do I hate when I have to "make" my kids grow up! Megan had a "watermelon blankie" that was worn and torn and boy did she love it! We took it with us to Disneyland a couple months ago and she lost it. It was a sad day. I filled out a lost item form and hoped they would mail it to us, but I'm sure when the clean up crew found it they figured no one would miss a torn up old blankie. Megan does! She asks about it often, and I finally had to tell her that I think it's gone forever. She told me the other day that she thinks it probably just died and is in heaven now. Phew, yeah, that's a good idea Meg! :) Anyway, I've never really minded the blankie, but this is what happened to Megan's finger when she touched it...
It's such a funny thing. If she doesn't have the blankie, it is impossible for her to suck her finger. But the minute she holds her blankie, her finger goes in her mouth. It's a bad habit and I've tried doing a couple of things to help her get over it, but then I just feel so bad that I give in to her. After we lost the "Watermelon blankie," I should have just used that as a time to lose the blankie thing but I just gave her some other blankies that felt like the watermelon one. You can see they had the same effect...
So I was talking to a mom with grown kids the other day at the park. We were talking about blankie and finger addictions. Her kids had the same issues and she said she wished she had helped them overcome it earlier. So I got to thinking about it this morning and decided today was the day. I explained what would happen to her teeth if she continued sucking on her finger (it's my responsibility as an orthodontist's wife) and then we talked about how the blankie made her want to suck her finger so we need to put it away. We decided we would wrap it up in a box to give to her baby when she becomes a mom. I wanted her to have something instead of the blankie so we headed to Build-a-Bear to make a "special bear." She was so excited. We ended up with a Pink kitty (really it's a leopard.) I got suckered into buying the little one too! Here they are...
It was time to say goodbye to blankie so she kissed it goodbye
and folded it up
stuffed it into the box...
and there you have it!
It all went well until bed time. Oh was it hard! Megan tried to be brave, but she came out of her room holding her little kitty and said, "Mom, this is really hard, I really want my blankie." I told her I knew it was hard and to just hug her kitty really tight. She did and bravely walked away. Did I mention how much I hate this??
Mark laid with her in bed until she fell asleep. She told Mark about her day and how hard it was to pack up her blankie. Then she fell asleep and is sleeping soundly right now...

Daddy/Daughter Date
I have very fond memories of my Daddy/Daughter Dates. To add a little humor to this post, here is me and my dad 25 years ago (oh man, does that hurt!) My kids have been laughing about this photo all day, so go ahead, laugh it up! :)
Rachel and Mark were able to enjoy their first Daddy/Daughter last weekend.
Since I am one of the leaders, I was able to be there too! Here we are with some of the girls.
There was eatin'...
and some shavin'...
and for payback, the dad's got to do the girl's hair!
It was such a crack-up!
They were finally all ready for the Barn Dance!
What a good lookin' cowboy and cowgirl!

Veteran's Day
This morning while we were eating breakfast I asked the kids if they knew what holiday was today.
Silence.
So I said, "It's Veteran's Day, do you know what Veteran's Day is?"
Silence.
So I asked if they knew what a Veteran was.
Silence for a minute then Tommy said (with sincerity), "Yeah, it's someone who doesn't eat meat!" I chuckled and said, "No, anybody else?" Then Tommy really thought he had it this time and replied, "Oh, I know, it's someone who takes care of animals!!" I really laughed out loud this time and then I explained to my kids (who should already know) what a Veteran is and why we celebrate them on this day! We love you Veterans!!!(and Vegetarians and Veterinarians!)

Rachel's 2nd Feis
Recently Rachel and I went to Colorado so she could complete in her second Feis (Irish dance competition). We went with these awesome girls from her dance school...
Most of these girls have been dancing for a long time. They are really good. They have taken Rachel under their wings and helped her progress quickly. I can't say enough good about this group of girls.
We spent the first day preparing for the competition and practicing
Then it was the big day...There was a lot of waiting, but Rach appeared to be rather calm.
Rachel was finally on stage, ready to compete...
AND SHE ROCKED!
She placed 1st place in three of her dances and 2nd in one of them!
Congrats Rach!

Halloween Week
It was a week full of fun!!! There was pumpkin carving..
My niece, Tori joined us for the fun. I think she loved gutting the pumpkin!

It became really messy!
This year the kids piano teacher had their recital the week of Halloween and had the kids wear their costumes. It was fun!
Then there was the school Halloween program. Tommy had a little speaking part
Sam was way across the gym from me so this was the best shot I could get of him with my zoom lens. Where is Waldo?? (Sam) Hint-- you can't see his whole face.
